Condition assessments for parking structures involve the use of multiple NDT tools, like ground penetrating radar (GPR), impact echo (IE) and rapid automated sounding (RAS). GPR is an effective tool for detecting issues within concrete components such as parking decks, ramps, beams, and columns. Such issues can include moisture intrusion, concrete deterioration, cover thickness and spacing of bars. RAS collection provides objective delamination mapping along the driving surfaces. In addition, it also records high resolution video to identify surface distress, supported by targeted IE readings.
NDT results provide us with quantities and plan-view maps of features like rebar spacing and cover, concrete deterioration, and delaminations.
