Dr. Ralf Birken is a geophysical engineer by training (Post-Doc level), an expert in applied electromagnetic geophysics, and has 20+ years of research and engineering experience in industry and academia in near-surface geophysical mapping, designing new mobile measurement systems, dealing with Big Data sets, and applying sensor technologies for civil infrastructure health monitoring applications.  His current focus is on applications like Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE), Pavement and Bridge Deck Inspection, and Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE).  The most commonly used tools are Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), Electromagnetic Induction, Optical (2D and 3D), and Acoustic Methods.

KEITH SOROTA

Project Engineer

“This is a placeholder for a quote from Keith where he could mention what he likes most about his field of study, working at Infrasense, favorite projects, etc.”

Since 2007, Mr. Sorota has been working in the remote sensing and NDT field using various near-surface geophysical techniques, including ground penetrating radar, EM conductivity, ultrasonic, and seismic methods (MASW, Reflection, Refraction). He holds a bachelor’s degree in Earth and Environmental Sciences: GeoScience Concentration from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell. Mr. Sorota has experience with a multitude of geophysical projects, combining these different techniques to investigate the subsurface. Keith’s project background includes subsurface target mapping, concrete condition mapping, pile depth investigations, landfill liner delineation, bedrock fracture mapping, a full suite of downhole mapping, groundwater detection, and bedrock/stratigraphy mapping.
