What we do:

We use our high-speed vehicle-based ground penetrating radar system in combination with falling weight deflectometer (FWD) and other NDE methods to detect:

  • pavement layer thickness
  • changes in pavement structure
  • subsurface voids, moisture, and stripping
  • relative density of new asphalt pavements

The GPR data can be combined with FWD or traffic speed deflectometer (TSD) data to calculate:

  • remaining life
  • structural number
  • pavement modulus
  • subgrade modulus

The GPR data is collected according to ASTM 4748-10, and synchronized with both linear distance and GPS coordinates for location referencing. Data collection can be performed at normal driving speeds without lane closures or traffic disruptions.

What you get:

Following data collection, an analysis is carried out using our proprietary software, which utilizes methodologies developed through research, and supported with over 29 years of experience.  The final results can be provided in formats including:

  • cross-section plots of the pavement structure showing depth of all layers
  • tabular results showing layer thicknesses at FWD test locations (synced with GPS)
  • quantities and maps of areas with subsurface voiding, moisture ingress, or stripping
  • GIS-compatible geospatial plots and geodatabase layers (i.e., ArcGIS)
