Infrasense completed a ground penetrating radar (GPR) survey to map the reinforcing steel layout and depth along the underside of a bridge deck in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. The rebar map will be used by the client to assess the load carrying capacity of the structure and ultimately to update the load rating. The GPR survey was carried out using a high-resolution handheld unit. Longitudinal and transverse data-lines were collected to provide a 3-dimensional dataset of the subsurface.
This project presented a unique challenge in that the survey had to be completed using handheld equipment and walking along the bed of the Lacrosse river.
This project presented a unique challenge in that the survey had to be completed using handheld equipment and walking along the bed of the Lacrosse river. This river ranged from 3 to 5 feet in depth and required the use of waders, an inflatable raft, and a small steel boat to provide the necessary access to the full extents of the survey area. Even with its unique challenges, the data collection was completed in a single day and the results were delivered to the client shortly after.
