Infrasense recently completed a subsurface utility engineering (SUE) project in the vicinity of the four vent buildings that service the Sumner and Callahan Tunnels in Boston, MA. The project involved reviewing availability site drawings (QL-D), confirming the location of the site features (e.g., water valves, catch basins, manholes) (QL-C), and locating known and unknown utilities using ground penetrating radar (GPR) and electromagnetic induction (EMI) locating tools (QL-B).
The results of the QL-B survey revealed the locations of drainage, gas, electrical, water, and communication lines. The site drawings were digitized in AutoCAD, a reference coordinate system was applied, and the detected utilities were overlaid. Estimated utility depths were also provided. The results of this survey will be used to aid in retrofitting construction projects planned for each of the buildings.
