Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) gives clients valuable insight into the most vital, and often invisible, parts of our neighborhood infrastructure. This can include sewer pipes, gas lines, and underground electrical and fiber optic cables. Infrasense recently conducted SUE mapping to identify and designate utilities and subsurface obstructions in Spencer, MA.
This survey included both electromagnetic induction (EMI) and GPR location data collection. Concurrent manhole openings confirm the presence of sewer and drainage lines (and no evidence of Ninja Turtle activity!).
The field team used EMI to locate and trace utilities that were accessible from utility poles, electrical transformers, and other utility infrastructure. The GPR survey used a dual frequency system that collects data simultaneously with a higher frequency antenna, making it ideal for shallower targets. The final maps will assist the local utility company in the planning and execution of upcoming work.
