Infrared Thermography (IRT) uses thermal imaging to detect subsurface delaminations, debonding, and moisture infiltration in concrete structures. This advanced nondestructive evaluation method works by capturing temperature variations on the surface that indicate thermal barriers caused by hidden defects beneath.

The technology operates by measuring temperature differences—as small as 0.1°C—across bridge decks and concrete structures. When solar heating or cooling occurs, delaminated or debonded areas exhibit different thermal properties different from sound concrete, creating detectable “hot spots” or “cool spots” that reveal the location and extent of potential structural weakness and concerns.

Infrasense uses high-resolution, distance-triggered infrared cameras with proprietary analysis software to transform the thermal data into precise delamination maps and quantified condition assessments.
