Ground Penetrating Radar Demo for Vermont DOT
Infrasense traveled north to the Green Mountain state to perform a ground penetrating radar (GPR) demo on two Interstate bridge decks with asphalt overlays. Infrasense performed high speed GPR testing to produce condition maps that showed deteriorated concrete. Immediately following the GPR survey, the asphalt overlay was removed and the deck was inspected by the VTrans Materials and Research personnel using traditional chain drag and hammer sounding methods. The GPR results showed acceptable correlation with the actual repair quantities, demonstrating that GPR can be a useful tool in the condition evaluations of asphalt-overlaid bridge decks.
